Tips for tax preparers and professionals

From January until the end of March 2010, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is issuing weekly tax tips with information geared towards specific groups that are most affected by new and existing credits, deductions, and benefits in the 2009 tax-filing season. This tax tip focuses on tax preparers and tax professionals.

As a tax preparer or tax professional, you file income tax and benefit returns on behalf of your client. Here is what you can do to help them.

Find out what's new this filing season

The 2009 return will reflect changes to existing tax measures and the introduction of new ones. To find out more about these changes, go to www.canada.gc.ca/taxinfo.

Claim all the credits, deductions and benefits that apply to your client

There are many credits, deductions and benefits administered by the CRA that your clients can claim based on their individual tax situations. For more information on which ones may apply to your clients, go to www.canada.gc.ca/taxinfo.

Use the CRA's electronic services to simplify the filing process
